bullet1 Don't Clamp the Cord - Poster

  • Poster: Don't Clamp the newborn's umbilical cord, by Donna Young.  This is a message that the neonate's pulsating umbilical cord for any child, should not be "clamped or hand-squeeze off " before all pulsation has ceased.  Ideally the placenta, the completion of the child's birth, has been expelled and without drugs (oxytocin) before bothering to do anything to the child's lifeline.  Revival of a child injured by drugs given the mother during labor (morphine (Demerol) Oxytocin), can be revived on the cord, not clamped off.  Cords around the neck can be dealt with a sponge or a finger put between the neck and the cord to prevent neck injury; otherwise, the child cut off the cord can be seriously impaired (See chow-case-law, Ontario, Canada, Sommers and Roth) Comments to :   donna@123babybirth.com  or dyoung@pris.ca   (REVISED JUNE 25, 2004)
