Doris Haire since the 1970's has been an advocate for natural birth education and rights of women in child birth to have informed consent. Links on topics by Doris Haire are provided by Donna Young. I am an advocate for natural birth education and practice and for Signed Birth Contracts. These birth contracts, if requested, do secure the women's right for refusal of any questionable hospital policies, such as appropriate care forms being imposed on women to have any kind of services at all, imposed on her, by hospitals and medical persons, are highly unethical and questionable. The appropriate care forms are seeking to release the medical persons of liability but do not hold water. A signed birth contract if the doctor strays from that agreement of natural birth can bring a civil and/or criminal action. If there is no signature, the women should opt to birth unassisted if she is unsure the medical persons and the birth center intend to endanger her baby by hasty clamping and use of drugs and tools.

Appropriate care is not informed consent, and would not uphold water, if taken to the court of any performance of any kind on the women. This is because she did not know what was dangerous to herself or the child, such as drug, and the side effects such as allergy reactions. And to know there are no safe dosages, and cutting of her body to birth her baby is harmful and the use of tools such as forceps and vacuums and unnecessary scanning of her baby can break up its cell forms.

Other examples of lack of informed consent are an issue of the termination of the pregnancy, an abortion. The mother must be told of regrets and sorrow. Such a women won in a court case in the UK because the doctor did not advise her such possibilities of this kind of depression. The lady won her civil suit.

Informed consent of risks and best practice possible of alternative safer options is a duty of all medical persons, so they have no security to use a defense of any policies imposed on the pregnant lady as a defense. It depends on the justice system and the particulars of each case.

VACCINATIONS MAY HAVE A MANDATE TO OFFER THEM BUT THEY CANNOT BE MANDATORY TO BE IMPOSED ON ANY BABY OR PERSON:

In Ireland, a Judge ruled that PKU testing cannot be imposed on all babies. It must be informed choice. No needle need be inserted into a baby for a PKU test or for a pH test, they can be done, if consented to, by urine testing.

In England it was upheld that no doctor can impose a c-section on a women, without her informed consent. The birth mother can say no to cutting of her body to give birth, and can say no to drugs and to early umbilical cord clamping, but prefer the placenta is expelled and the cord not handled by clamping or cutting, the mother preferring to do this herself, if at all.

Therefore, doctors policies and policies created by medical societies, colleges, associations and private conflict of interest by drug companies, cannot be imposed on any women during birth labor and during the birth.

This speech indicates the need of caution on drugs and best practice possible is to avoid early umbilical cord clamping and that oxytocins are dangerous to the mother and child, to be avoided.

Foundation for Maternal and Child Health, New York to
the FDA Science Board November 17, 2000

I appreciate this invitation to share my concerns with the members of the FDA Science Board, and to ask the Board to urge the FDA to create an Interdisciplinary Obstetric Advisory Board comprised of pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, behavioral scientists, midwives, obstetric nurses and obstetricians to evaluate the safety of drugs to be administered to pregnant and parturient women. The FDA can not expect a Maternal Health Drug Advisory Committee made up almost exclusively of obstetricians to be objective about the drugs they have administered to their patients. Such a group does not have the training or expertise to determine the delayed effects of the drugs they administer to parturients on the long-term neurologic development of the exposed offspring.
