bullet1 Attention Deficit Disorders 200,000 Canadian children take Ritalin, may now switch to Strattera

NEW DRUG TO CONTROL ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER by Donna Young.

See comments at end of news stories about 200,000 Canadian children or more, needing drugs.

It is believed they were damaged by needless child birth trends, hasty umbilical cord clamping and drugging the mothers at birth, harmful birth positions, on the back, and early vaccinations when the child is anemic.

Such common factors are seldom investigated by doctors treating childhood disorders, they look, rather to bad genes, drugs or alcohol the parents took, smoking habits, but never is there tracing to what happened during birth, indicating an uneducated mother to protect her child or an adequately trained medical person(s).

VANCOUVER - There's a new drug available for the treatment of ADHD, or attention deficit hyper activity disorder. Strattera is a non-stimulant that may revolutionize how the disorder is treated.

Children with ADHD are usually treated with Ritalin — a powerful stimulant that helps the brain control behaviour. This enables a child to concentrate on tasks they find difficult or boring, such as reading and writing.

INDEPTH: Ritalin on the Rise

More than 200,000 Canadian children take Ritalin, which has side effects.

Eleven-year-old Page Thorburn was taken off Ritalin after only two months. She had too much energy and had trouble sitting still.

_______________

"It became very difficult for her to sleep and do her homework. Her appetite was affected," says Wendy Thorburn, Page's mother. "We found…it worked very well at school (but) it was really difficult at home."

FROM Nov. 27, 2001: More low income children on path to Ritalin

Page started taking a new drug 10 months ago as part of a trial. It's called atomoxetine, sold under the brand name Strattera.

Page says she likes it better — she doesn't experience nausea and has a better appetite.

Atomoxetine failed trials as an anti-depressant but has found new life as treatment for ADHD. It will soon be sold in Canada.

"This medication is taken once a day but it provides improvement for the child, not just for a few hours that it's taken but around the clock," says Dr. Margaret Weiss, a child psychiatrist who has spent most of her career working with ADHD patients.

FROM Oct. 15, 2001: Ritalin getting into the wrong hands

Weiss is conducting trials for Eli Lilly, the drug's maker.

"This medication is not a controlled substance," says Weiss. "It doesn't have street value. There are many parents who may have concerns about their children taking stimulants who are going to be willing to accept treatment with this medication."

A 2001 report in the Canadian Medical Association Journal discovered Ritalin abuse was high among teens. Nearly 15 per cent of teenagers who are prescribed Ritalin or other stimulants have given away at least some of their pills.

Strattera has only been tested in 4,000 patients. It hasn't been tested against Ritalin. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved it last November and it has been available in the U.S. since January.

Comments from Donna, www.lotusbirth.com:   I say, the best treatment for sickness is prevention.

We are the third generation to be exploited as to baby birth procedures.  At the present time there are no reviews of children with any disorder, whether that is eating, sleeping, autism, ADD, or other, are reviewed for their mother accepting drugs during labor, flat and semi-sitting positions, and if the medical person(s) imposed his/her will and did, without cause, immediate cord clamping.  Without cause which are only two:  cord broke or placenta previa.  Both would require justification, as the child would need assistance, in most instances, of correction of deprived blood and oxygen.

The immediate cord clamping knowingly deprives the child of 20 to 50 percent total blood volume.  There is also interrupting of the child's circulation system, drawing away blood from the brain, to go into the lungs.   Four to six ounces (180 ml) are deprived the average child, at birth, by wrongful immediate and early cord clamping.  That latter has been attempted to be standardized at 30-seconds.

The placenta and blood are either discarded (assumed burned but many hospitals use it as cheap research blood and no paper work) or they are both sent to drug companies, cosmetic companies and/or stem cell blood banks.   Compensation may or may not be obtained by the hospital for the collection of same, and private billings may be permissible at each hospital, if the medical persons are doing this.

No consent for early cord clamping is obtained from either parent, in most instances.  The child, in most cases, looks apparently normal, but is anemic.  Premature babies, because they have the most stem cell blood, more so then full term babies, are most vulnerable to being exploited for their blood.

Children in that weakened and anemic condition are vaccinated, often with preservatives and trace elements like aluminum and mercury.  They become weaker still, and are pushed over the edge.

The drug companies, nor the doctors participating in questionable birth trends and care of the mother and the child, are taking no responsibility or accountability.  Drug companies are not required to put on all ingredients and trace elements on the vaccination lot numbers to have the medical person giving those injections first inform and have consent or rejection of their products.

The public is simply not educated of their rights.  They do not have to accept policies of hospitals, that are run as a business, and the doctors operate as business persons too.  The public, and the individuals are their business for exploitation. Be Alert.
