Super Bug at Vancouver Children's Hospital, prevention may be no clamping of the umbilical cord.
Disadvantages of babies who have a clamped and cut umbilical cord by Donna Young: The infants
who have a
clamped and cut umbilical cord have prolonged healings and are at risk of cord infections.
-
The Vancouver, BC, Canada Children's Hospital (year 2002) had serious concerns of super bug getting
into the blood stream
of the neonates. All hospitals, therefore, may be wise to ask the mothers if they wish to
have no clamping or cutting of the
cord, and/or to manage that at their own convenience, in a safer disease free environment, at home. This would likely stop
the risk of cord infections at any hospital, too. This lessening of risk of infections cuts down
the need for antibiotics and fear
of staph infections.
-
Lotus Birth. Those baby's whose mothers do not clamp or cut the cord, have experienced the cord
dries and falls off within 2,
3, or 4 days. No super bugs, no hernias. And, the baby gets all his/her own blood, as long
as no person inserts a needle and
withdraws blood from the child's vein in the cord. That should not be permitted. There is a risk
of a virus getting by an
insertion of a needle into a baby's umbilical cord or skin.
-
pH tests can be done from urine samples and blood sample can be safely taken from the placenta after
all pulsation has
ceased in the child's cord. The blood can be "dried" blood, it does not have to be liquid
form for blood typing.
